Those who make filings with the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) now must use the agency’s new e-Filing portal. It became operational on Feb. 1, 2024.
The PBGC had announced on Jan. 8 that it would launch a new and improved e-filing portal at the start of the next month. The launch of the new e-filing portal is in accordance with Executive Order 14028, which requires federal agencies to adopt multifactor authentication for public-facing websites. The PBGC began to comply in 2023 by making these changes to My PAA.
Now the only way to access the PBGC’s e-filing portal is through Login.gov, a secure sign-in service used by the public to sign in to participating government agencies. Login.gov uses two-factor authentication and password requirements for secure validation and verification. Filers will need to set up a Login.gov account and use their credentials to log in to the PBGC e-filing portal.
Uses
The PBGC’s new e-filing portal has many uses, which include more functions than simply making required filings. They include:
- Setting and resetting passwords.
- Making the following filings:
- 4010;
- reportable events;
- single employer plan filings
- certain multiemployer plan filings; and
- special financial assistance (SFA) applications.
- Creating pre-populated filings.
- Uploading documents and attachments.
- Viewing, editing, amending, reassigning, and deleting filings.
