The IRS has revised Publication 4810, Specifications for Electronic Filing of Form 8955-SSA, Annual Registration Statement Identifying Separated Participants With Deferred Vested Benefits. The revisions, made in November 2019, are to update the form for filing concerning the 2019 plan year.
Publication 4810 outlines the communication procedures, record format, validation criteria and errors associated with the electronic filing of Form 8955-SSA and sets forth the file specifications and record layouts that should be used. It must be used to prepare current and prior year Form 8955-SSAs.
