Thank You, Martella!

ASEA Monthly

Martella Turner-Joseph has been a leader of the Legislative Relations Committee for a total of 12 years, which includes the nine years that I have been employed at the American Retirement Association. She served as a Co-chair of the Committee for four years from 2010-2013, and then Chaired the Committee in her own right for an additional eight years from 2014-2021.

Martella was instrumental in guiding the development of the organization’s original Legislative Proposals document issued in 2013 and its subsequent updates. Many of those proposals ultimately became law when Congress enacted the SECURE Act in 2019 and even more are under active consideration as Congress works to complete a SECURE 2.0 legislative package next year.

In short, Martella leaves a rich legacy of successful legislative policy development that improved the retirement plan system for the American worker. It was an absolute pleasure to work with her and to see these great ideas become law.

Andrew J. Remo is the American Retirement Association’s Director of Legislative Affairs.
