Goodbye Marty!

ASEA Monthly

As you may have heard, Marty Pippins, who serves as both ASEA Executive Director and ARA Director of Regulatory Policy has announced his upcoming retirement on Feb. 12, 2021. We will certainly miss Marty’s leadership and I would like to use this forum to personally thank Marty for all that he has done for ASEA and wish him all the best in his retirement. As an organization that works to give every working American the ability to have a comfortable retirement, it is gratifying to see one of our own reach the goal of retirement that we all work to provide.

While we say goodbye to Marty, we also say hello to two new team members who will be stepping into Marty’s previous roles. First, welcome to Allison Wielobob, General Counsel of ARA, who will be taking on the additional role of Executive Director of ASEA. Allison brings a wealth of experience with her from her previous roles, including time as attorney for the U.S. Department of Labor on the staff of the Office of Regulations and Interpretations of the Employee Benefits Security Administration, as legislative counsel for the Joint Committee on Taxation of the U.S. Congress, and as an attorney-advisor in the Office of Chief Counsel of the IRS. I have had the opportunity to begin working with Allison over the last month, and I’m excited about the leadership I have already seen her bring to ASEA.

Stepping into the role of Director of Regulatory Policy is Kelsey Mayo of Poyner Spruill LLP. Kelsey has been quite involved with ASPPA’s Government Affairs Committee in many roles over the last several years and is a frequent speaker at various ASPPA conferences. She has quite a unique background. She is not only Lead Employee Benefits Attorney with her firm, but holds a degree in accounting and is closing in on her ASA designation. Kelsey will be remaining with Poyner Spruill, and will be serving ARA on a retainer basis. I’ve been lucky enough to call Kelsey a friend for many years and know that she will be a fantastic addition to ARA.

Congratulations to Marty, and welcome to Allison and Kelsey.
