ASEA Monthly

Hello ASEA –

Hope you all had a nice time at ASPPA Annual, perhaps in person. I have not seen another actuary in person in over two years and truly hope 2022 is the magic year where we get back to normal.

I remember one of the last actuaries I met in person and connected with over our love of the ASEA Google Group was David J. Kupstas, FSA, EA, MSEA, Chief Actuary of the ACG Retirement Plan Design and Administration Division. I recall walking through Chicago during the then-ACOPA Symposium with David. Cut to a few years later, and he is a repeat contributor to the ASEA Monthly. This month he provides us with an article from his blog on RMDs. Perhaps the article is more DC-based, but as we are all such DB experts, some DC learnin’ (sic) is a good thing. You can find his article here.

Speaking of blogs, I often look for potential ASEA Monthly articles on retirement-based blogs and I was happy to see that Brent Henningson, FSA, EA, CEO & Enrolled Actuary of Saber Pension & Actuarial Services, participates in such a podcast. Brent and podcast host Andy Wang were kind enough to allow us to reprint the transcript of one such podcast, which can you find here.

Our next two articles are from the outgoing and incoming presidents of ASEA. First we have our outgoing president, Justin Bonestroo, MSEA, EA, CPC, CPFA, Senior Vice President at CBIZ, who provides details of the recent ASEA business meeting. Thank you, Justin, for your year-plus of leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic. You can find Justin’s article here.

Next up is our incoming president, Virginia C. Wentz, EA, FSEA, CPC, Director of Actuarial Services at the MandMarblestone Group llc. Virginia takes over January 1 and provides her ‘Hello!’ article here.

Okay, folks—hope to see you in 2022. Have a great Thanksgiving (in just 3 weeks!) and upcoming holiday season.
