ASEA Monthly

Happy Summer ASEA!

The fourth issue in four months is here! Thank you to Elizabeth, Joey, David, and the writers!

Elizabeth did double (or more likely octo) duty this month. She provided this article about various volunteer opportunities. I hope someone is inspired to get more involved with ASEA—it can be a real life changer. One of my few regrets is not having done more extra-curricular activities in my youth. Please read and sign up for one of the activities in Elizabeth’s article found here: https://www.asppa-net.org/asea/getting-involved-asea-volunteerism

One of my current volunteer activities is being a member of the Legislative Relations Committee. It is a great way to stay on top of (and be involved with shaping) proposed legislation. Thinking back 20 years ago, I was surprised to find out how pension rule changes go from proposed among its members to lobbying with government officials to actual law. Andrew Remo, Director of Legislative Affairs for the American Retirement Association, gives us insight into some potential new changes in his article here: https://www.asppa-net.org/asea/advocacy-update-%E2%80%93-what%E2%80%99s-next-2023

After her article in the last issue made a splash, my current favorite actuary, Tiffany Myers, FSA, EA, MSEA, Manager, Actuarial Services, FuturePlan, wrote TWO articles this month!

The first article is a technical article on maximum contributions under 404(a)(7). Great article on a difficult subject and I will let Tiffany speak for herself and present her article here: https://www.asppa-net.org/asea/404a7-deduction-limit-deep-dive

The next article by Tiffany was more along the lines of ‘The Life of an Actuary.’ For a supposedly boring-type profession,  ASEA definitely won the lottery for members’ personalities. No surprise, Tiffany pushes and challenges herself, and you can find her article here: https://www.asppa-net.org/asea/running-and-actuaries

Again, for the old and young, the new and the old—we look forward to your involvement and reach out to us for any questions.

I hope your air is Canadian-wildfire-free! I will speak to you all soon.
