ASPPA Connect Returns June 21

Inside ASPPA

ASPPA Connect will not be published on Monday, June 19 as our offices will be closed on Juneteenth. ASPPA Connect will resume publication on Wednesday, June 21.

Juneteenth, our newest federal holiday, is the oldest known celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Union Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, the headquarters of the Union District of Texas, on June 19, 1865; on that day, among the orders he issued was General Order No. 3, formally announcing emancipation to the District of Texas. President Abraham Lincoln had issued the Emancipation Proclamation on Jan. 1, 1863.
