Description: Most pension actuaries never encounter multiemployer plan funding methods – except on the EA exams. This webinar will be a review of multiemployer topics tested on the EA-2F exam, presented by actuaries working in the industry.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Alternative funding methods, including EAN, FIL, and Aggregate
  2. Multiemployer minimum and maximum funding, and the actuarial value of assets
  3. The funding standard account, amortization bases, and the “equation of balance”
  4. Determination of zone status, funding improvement and rehabilitation plans, and applicable excise taxes and surcharges (IRC 432 and 4971)

About the Speaker: Allen Pauly is a Senior Actuary at Cuni, Rust & Strenk in Cincinnati, Ohio. Allen earned his Bachelor of Arts in Actuarial Science from the University of Connecticut in 2006. He began his career in 2016 in Stamford, CT. He currently specializes in multiemployer defined benefit plan design, funding, reporting, and employer withdrawal liability. Allen is an Enrolled Actuary under ERISA, an Associate of the Society of Actuaries, a Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst, and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

Kevin Cole is an Associate Actuary at Cuni, Rust & Strenk in Cincinnati, Ohio. Kevin graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Actuarial Science in 2019. Kevin has experience with single-employer and multiemployer pension plan actuarial valuations and funding projections. Kevin is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries, and has completed all of the examinations and requirements to become an Enrolled Actuary.
