CPC Exam

The CPC examination consists of 8 multiple part essay questions, and candidates have 4½ hours to complete it. The exam questions cover the following topics:

  • Business entities and related groups
  • Coverage and nondiscrimination
  • 401(k) plans
  • Defined benefit plans
  • Distributions and loans
  • Fiduciary responsibilities, including ERISA 404(c)
  • Correction programs and ethics
  • Plan design

CPC Spring Exam Registration

Administration Date: June 13, 2019 | Registration Deadline:  June 6, 2019

You can buy the exam at any time, but the test is only administered on twice a year. The first exam date is June 13, 2019. The second exam will be administered in November.

Candidates sitting for the CPC Exam should hold a QPA and have the knowledge of materials covered in the CPC Modules. In addition to testing the knowledge of material included in the CPC syllabus, the exam is intended to test the candidate's knowledge of the underlying principals and the candidate’s ability to apply those principals when solving problems encountered in practice.

Exam Scoring

CPC examination results will be mailed to candidates approximately eight to ten (8-10) weeks after the examination date, after an expert review and grading. Exams are given twice a year at Prometric Testing Centers during the examination window.

Candidates who pass the examination will receive a 9, 8, or 7.  Candidates who fail to achieve a passing score will receive a 6, 5, or 3. Typically, the minimum passing score has remained near the 70% mark. Please note, this passing mark can vary and is adjusted depending on the exam difficulty as ASPPA updates exam forms. Candidate exam details, official cut scores, and performance on individual exam questions are not released beyond this provided information.

Mail: Complete the proctored exam registration form and mail with payment to ASPPA, P.O. Box 34725, Alexandria, VA 22334-0725. All forms of payment are accepted: credit card, check or money order. Allow 7-10 business days for processing.

Once registered, eligibility emails will be sent to candidates. The eligibility email has detailed instructions on scheduling an appointment with Prometric. It is the candidate’s responsibility to schedule an exam. We strongly recommend scheduling an appointment upon receipt of the confirmation letter, as testing centers fill up quickly. CE Credits

Candidates receive 20 CE credits with a passing grade on the exam, and 15 credits for a failing grade. Credits will be applied to the CE cycle in which the score is issued. For more information on CE, click here.
