The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) has updated its Pension Insurance Data Tables by providing the third installment of 2018 data concerning its Single-Employer and Multiemployer Programs and the private defined benefit pension system.
Highlights of information from this installment include:
Single Employer Program
- Number of insured plans: 23,371
- Highest number of insured plans are from those with:
1. Fewer than 25 employees
2. 25-99 employees
3. 250-999 employees; together, these groups comprise 81% of insured plans
- Number of participants in insured plans: 26,215,000; 68% of the participants are in plans with 10,000 or more participants
- Premium revenue: $5,518,000,000
Multiemployer Program
- Number of insured plans: 1,373
- Highest number of insured plans are from those with:
1. 1,000-2,499 employees
2. 500-999 employees
3. 2,500-4,999 employees; together, these groups comprise 58% of insured plans
Number of participants in insured plans: 10,633,000; 78% of the participants are in plans with 10,000 or more participants
Premium revenue: $292,000,000
