PBGC Names Hanley Chief of Negotiations and Restructuring

Government Affairs

The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) on Jan. 27 announced the appointment of John Hanley as Chief of Negotiations and Restructuring.

Since joining the PBGC in 2005, Hanley has served in several leadership positions, including Deputy Chief of Negotiations and Restructuring. He has worked on a wide variety of matters during his tenure with the agency, including complex casework and settlement negotiations. Since June 2022, Hanley has served as the Acting Chief of Negotiations and Restructuring; his responsibilities included work affecting Multiemployer and Single-Employer Program operations, including the Special Financial Assistance Program.

Before coming to the PBGC, Hanley held executive management positions at Citicorp/Citibank and The Chase Manhattan Bank, and also had served as CEO of the North American Securities Administrators Association.

Hanley replaces Karen Morris, who now serves as PBGC General Counsel.
