Lawsuit Filed Against Academy Board Members

Members of the American Academy of Actuaries (AAA) have filed a class action lawsuit against the AAA’s board alleging violations of the organization’s bylaws.

The complaint (2018-CH-15777) was filed on Dec. 20, 2018 in Cook County Circuit Court in Illinois. It alleges that the defendants, who are board members of the AAA, violated the organization’s bylaws by removing members of the selection committee in September 2018.

The plaintiffs are looking to reverse the board’s decision and to fill the selection committee pursuant to the bylaws.

The plaintiffs also seek to declare the actions taken by the selection committee to be voided and to award attorney’s fees and costs. They are represented by attorneys at Dinsmore & Shohl LLP in Chicago.

The Cook County Record’s news report on the complaint is here; you can monitor action on the complaint by searching the court’s docket search web page, here (enter Chancery Division; name: The American Academy).
