Graff: The American People Really Care About Retirement

American Retirement Association CEO Brian Graff offered his assessment of how things stand in Washington at the on April 30 opening session of the Plan Sponsor Council of America’s (PSCA) 2019 annual conference in Tampa. The PSCA is one of the organizations that comprise the ARA.

“There is very little agreement in Washington,” said Graff. “But one thing does seem to be bubbling up – and that is retirement policy.” He cited the House Ways & Means Committee’s recent bipartisan vote approving the SECURE Act as an example, terming it “extraordinary” that the committee did so unanimously.

This is happening, Graff said, because “the American people really care about retirement.” He added that studies now show that concern about whether there will be enough money during retirement is now Americans’ biggest financial worry.

“We have a policy problem, and now we have a political problem,” said Graff. But now, he added, “members of Congress are paying attention.” And, he told attendees, “the plan sponsor perspective is needed now more than ever before.”
