From the Executive Editor

Hello ASEA—

Happy 2020.5, all. I look forward to getting back to the old normal sooner than later.

But actuarial work continues...

I was edumacating (sic) myself on 401(a)(26) rules under the SECURE Act and I came across an article by John Markley, our former president and Industry Relations Director at The Retirement Advantage, Inc. (TRA). John was kind enough to let me use his article (which also appeared in the Summer issue of Plan Consultant magazine), “The Impact of the SECURE Act on Frozen Pension Plans,” which you can find on the TRA website here

Also kind enough to provide an article is another former president (of ASPPA), David Lipkin, MSPA FSA, Consulting Actuary, Metro Benefits, Inc. David’s article is on offering JBEA credit for your study or work group, which I hope many of you find useful. You can find it here.

But enough with former presidents! Our current president of ASEA, Justin Bonestroo, MSPA, EA, CPC, CPFA, and Senior Vice President at CBIZ, bids a fond farewell to our Executive Director, Marty Pippens, and a hello to two new faces.

Best of luck Marty! And your question 3 or 4 years ago asking me what was the last book I read still resonates with me, as I now try to make more time for reading.

Ok, folks—keeping it short as January is a crazy month with data coming in fast and furious. This may be even more stressful than the Sept. 15 and Oct. 15 deadlines. At this rate, I will never be able to attend the LLA Advanced Pension and 401(k) Conference that had been held in January.

But at least for 2022, I would expect it will be in-person. How great will that be!!!

Peace out!

Alan
