ASPPA Welcomes Nolan as 50th President

The American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries welcomed James R. Nolan, QPA, as the 2019 President of the organization during the Oct. 21 Business Meeting that kicked off the 2018 ASPPA Annual Conference in National Harbor, MD.

Nolan will succeed current ASPPA President Adam Pozek in January.

Nolan is the founder (in 1979) and chairman of the board of The Nolan Company in Overland Park, KS, an independent TPA providing recordkeeping, administration, actuarial and plan design services serving clients in 49 states. He has served on ASPPA’s Leadership Council since 2013.

Joining Nolan as ASPPA Officers for 2019 are:

  • President-Elect: Miriam (“Missy”) Matrangola
  • Vice President: Frank Porter
  • Immediate Past President: Adam Pozek

In addition, three ASPPA members were elected to open seats on the ASPPA Leadership Council at the Oct. 21 Business Meeting:

  • JJ McKinney
  • Bill Presson
  • Natalie Wyatt

Graff Honors Tripodi

ASPPA Executive Director Brian Graff took the opportunity to honor longtime ASPPA leader Sal Tripodi "for his many years of service and commitment" to the organization. Tripodi, author of the widely read ERISA Outline Book published by ASPPA, will be phasing out his involvement in the multi-volume resource. But Graff also revealed some good news: Robert Richter, like Tripodi a highly respected longtime ASPPA member and former President, will be joining the American Retirement Association staff and "will be taking over as the new face of the EOB beginning on Jan. 1, 2019," Graff said, adding that EOB subscribers can look forward to "a seamless transition." 

ARA Leadership Changes

The American Retirement Association also held its annual Business Meeting during the Oct. 21 opening session, welcoming Steven Dimitriou as 2019 President. Dimitriou is the Managing Partner of Mayflower Advisors, LLC in Boston and Westborough, MA. An original member of NAPA’s Leadership Council, Dimitriou served as NAPA’s 2014-2015 President.

Joining Dimitriou as ARA Officers for 2019 are:

  • President-Elect: Kyla Keck
  • Treasurer: Joe Nichols
  • Secretary: JoeDeNoyior
  • Immediate Past President: Scott Hayes 

In addition, Tamara Indianer was elected to an at-large seat on the ARA Board of Directors. She is the 2018 President of the National Tax-Deferred Savings Association (NTSA).
