ASPPA Eastern Regional Conference to Address Controlled Groups and Affiliated Service Groups

Education and Career Development

Why is it important to know if a controlled group or affiliated group exists? Why is it important to know when certain children celebrate their 21st birthday?

Those questions and more will be covered in detail at the ASPPA Eastern Regional Conference to be held May 9-10 at the Doubletree Center City Hotel in Philadelphia. Early registration for the conference ends Friday, April 5.

The topic will be the subject of a concurrent workshop, “Fun and Frolic in Determining Controlled Groups and Affiliated Service Groups,” that Kelsey Mayo, Partner, Poyner Spruill LLP, will lead. She has extensive legal experience in both the controlled group and affiliated service group areas. In 2018, Mayo presented two ASPPA webcasts — one on in-depth controlled groups and the other on in-depth affiliated service groups. She was also one of the speakers featured in the 2018 ASPPA Spring Virtual Conference and the 2019 ASPPA Spring Virtual Conference.

In this conference workshop, Mayo will look at several case studies of real life and hypothetical scenarios surrounding the determination and testing of controlled groups and affiliated service groups.

Attendees will learn about brother-sister and parent-subsidiary controlled groups, be able to identify constructive ownership issues, and get the latest word on affiliated service groups.

The 2019 ASPPA Eastern Regional Conference will also offer a variety of current topics, IRS and DOL sessions, ethics credit, and an “Ask the Experts” panel for which you can submit questions here or at the conference. Information about the conference is available here; registration information may be found here. Take advantage of the early bird discount by registering today before the April 5 early bird deadline.
