New IRS Rules Post-Windsor: Update on the Impact of the DOMA Decision

On August 29, 2013, IRS issued Revenue Ruling 2013-17 and two sets of FAQs regarding the treatment of same-sex married couples under the Internal Revenue Code.  The guidance, which is effective on September 16, 2013, specifically addresses how same-sex married couples (as well as same-sex couples in domestic partnerships and civil unions) must be treated for employee benefit plan purposes.  Please join Ronald J. Continuing Education Changes for RECORDED Webcast Attendees

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Ronald J. Triche, Esq., APM

Ronald serves as Assistant General Counsel and Director of Government Affairs for ASPPA. In his role as Director of Government Affairs, he manages the ASPPA Government Affairs Committee and develops regulatory comments through a committee process, drafts summaries of agency guidance and presents ASPPA’s position to agencies such as the DOL, IRS, PBGC, SEC and on Capitol Hill. Prior to joining ASPPA, Ron was a shareholder at Trucker Huss in San Francisco, where he practiced in the areas of ERISA and qualified plans for 12 years.
