ASPPA Business Managers and Owners Council … Chatting Away

What do business owners discuss when only business owners are listening? Are they timid and guarded? Are they politically correct? Do they tread lightly on the feelings of their fellow entrepreneurs? If a pension administrator falls in the woods, does anyone care?

If you’re not a BMOC member, you may not be able to answer these questions. The BMOC is dedicated to business owners and key decision makers of pension administration and actuarial firms. BMOC is its members — and membership, in fact, has privileges.

I am enlightened by the impact that the BMOC Google Groups discussion forum has on my membership experience. In the short period since the hard launch, the forum has erupted in candid discussions regarding:

  • time and billing;

  • what your business is doing differently;

  • career advancement;

  • hiring; and

  • state tax withholding for distributions.

Like any group with more than 100 BMOC members, some actively provide input while others prefer to track the debate and discussion. Discussions result in new ideas for some and affirmation or pause for others.

The discussion forum participants experience honest input from their peers in a nonthreatening environment. The ebb and flow of the interactions prove as interesting as the subject matter as “chatter” drops for a couple of days then reignites with new thoughts from participants. The BMOC collective brain trust is profound and dynamic; both seasoned and rookie business owners can benefit greatly from spending time on the BMOC forum. Join us!
