Description:  Participant loans can become headaches if you don’t know the rules.  Join us to talk about the things that go wrong most often and how to avoid and correct these common errors.  We will review the basic rules for loans, as well as rules for defaulting loans, treating defaulted loans as deemed distributions and options for correcting defaulted loans.  We will also talk about how to treat loans for employees on leaves of absence.

About the Speaker:

 

Jim Paul has been providing practical and understandable guidance, advice and support to clients for more than 33 years, including employers, plan sponsors and fiduciaries who maintain and administer qualified pension and profit-sharing plans, welfare plans, nonqualified plans, executive compensation and other benefit programs.

 

From 401(k) plan compliance and corrections to executive compensation, due diligence and counseling employers on benefits issues in mergers and acquisitions, Jim has done almost everything in the employee benefits arena. His extensive experience includes counseling employers on design, compliance and operation of qualified retirement plans, nonqualified deferred compensation plans, welfare plans and stock-based compensation plans.

Jim also counsels’ clients on fiduciary issues and has experience in fiduciary litigation
