Description: This webcast will begin with a refresher on the hardship changes under the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018, including the expansion of the sources money now available for hardship as well as the new permissible withdrawal “event” for FEMA declared disasters. The session will also cover the temporary withdrawal relief under the CARES Act for COVID-19 impacted participants, and related DOL and IRS guidance, and relief from certain documentation requirements.  In addition, the retroactive amendment requirements for hardship withdrawals will be addressed. An interactive question and answer session will follow the presentation to assist in the learning process.

About the Speaker:

 

Mike Smith heads the Qualified Plan Consulting team in Voya Financial’s Corporate Markets. He has over 30 years of experience in the retirement plans field, specializing in 401(k) and other retirement plans. Mike is responsible for regulatory consulting and monitoring new and pending legislation for impact on Voya products and services.

Mike has been a member of the Board of Directors for the Connecticut Chapter of the National Institute of Pension Administrators (NIPA) for many years and serves as Chapter president in 2014.   He is also a member of the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries (ASPPA) and holds the Qualified Pension Administrator (QPA) and Qualified 401(k) Administrator (QKA) designations from that organization.

Mike has been active in youth coaching for many years and is a former high school football coach.

He is a graduate of Southern Connecticut State College in New Haven, CT.
