ASPPA Webcast: “One Bad Apple Rule Guidance for MEPs"

Description: This session will review the recent proposed regulations regarding relief from the one bad apple rule (or the “unified plan” rule) and examine how the regulations would apply in a variety of situations. The speaker will also address the guidance specific for Pooled Employer Plans contained in the proposed regulations.

Learning Objectives: 

  1. Identify plans which may qualify for relief from the unified plan rule
  2. Apply the proposed rule to various errors that may occur in an eligible plan.
  3. Understand steps that must be taken to qualify for relief under the proposed rules

About the Speaker: Kelsey Mayo is a partner with Poyner Spruill LLP, a law firm based in North Carolina, and the American Retirement Association’s Director of Regulatory Policy.  She has years of experience helping companies understand the most complex areas of the industry and represents clients before the Internal Revenue Service, Department of Labor, and Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation. Kelsey has a particular love for qualified and non-qualified pensions—so much so that she’s now passed 5 of the exams necessary for her ASA designation.  Kelsey spends her free time co-editing the Journal of Pension Benefits.
