ASPPA Webcasting

print page

ASPPA provides webcasts on time-sensitive subjects, such as regulations issued in response to the Pension Protection Act of 2006. Many "timeless" topics are also offered. Webcasts are presented in both live and recorded formats. Since webcasts are often on newly released information, webcasts are often announced only a month or two in advance. Please refer to posted schedules. Webcast are announced on this site and via e-mail to members and past webcast registrants.

Webcasts are generally 100 minutes in length. Viewing 100-minute webcasts qualifies member participants for two ASPPA continuing education credits. Check the Continuing Education page of this site to learn how to use webcasts for in-house training. ASPPA will not issue certifications of attendance. For more information on ASPPA webcasts, contact us at 703.516.9300 or webcast@asppa.org.

Registration and Confirmation

Registrations can be submitted by registering online or by returning a completed registration form to the ASPPA National Office via fax at 703.516.9308.

Prices and availability are determined by the membership status of the individual registering (ASPPA members pay a lower price), not by the person originally contacted regarding the webcast. Furthermore, if a member receives notification of an upcoming webcast and a non-member registers, the non-member is charged the non-member fee.

Confirmations are sent to the registered attendee's e-mail address on file. This is the only confirmation sent.

Registrants for the live presentation will receive confirmation and instructions via e-mail about a week prior to the show, including links to PDF files of the slides and/or any other related material the presenter distributes.

Registrants for the recorded presentation will receive access instructions via e-mail.

  • If they registered for the recorded presentation prior to the date the recorded version is made available, registrants will receive instructions at the time the recording is posted for access (approximately one-week after the live show).
  • If they registered for the recorded presentation after the presentation has been posted, registrants will receive instructions within one business day of registering.

Continuing Education

Webcast presentations are generally 100 minutes in length and qualify for two ASPPA continuing education credits per 100-minutes. Check the Continuing Education portion of the Web site to learn how to use this program for in-house training or as a study group. As a general rule, attendees must list the webcast in their CE summary filed at the end of the CE cycle, and if attending as part of a group, must complete an attendance verification form. ASPPA will not issue certifications of attendance.

ASPPA webcasts qualify for Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries (JBEA) CE credit. ASPPA has worked out an agreement with the JBEA on requirements that will allow Enrolled Actuaries, after the successful completion of a short five-question quiz, to receive credit for viewing an ASPPA webcast. As with all other ASPPA education programs, the JBEA is the final authority in determining the number and type of credit granted. Learn more on the JBEA CE web page.

Technical Requirements

A telephone and Internet connection are required. Live webcasts are seen by viewing graphics over the Internet using a Flash-enabled browser and listening via a toll-free number over your phone. If using a speakerphone, remember to mute the call for best audio quality.

Recorded webcasts are offered completely over the Internet using Flash presentation software. To participate, attendees must have Internet access and a computer with a sound card and speakers. Registered attendees may access the presentation only once. Arrangements are available for people who need to view the presentation more than once. A Flash* plug-in for your Internet browser is required to view and hear the webcasts.

Test your system's capabilities by completing the Browser Check click on Attendee Login and use 'demo' as the Show Code, and complete the rest of the fields. You should see a set of slides automatically start scrolling on the screen. If not, download the latest Flash* plug-in and retest. If you are still experiencing problems, visit the help page.

Note: Viewing webcasts depend on available bandwidth. Most problems affecting the quality of a webcast are attributed to lack of bandwidth. Bandwidth is particularly important when viewing a recorded webcast since the entire presentation, video and audio, is served over the Internet. Please keep this in mind when you schedule viewing of recordings.
