The American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries (ASPPA) communicates vital information to its members, the news media, and the public through this Web site and other means.  ASPPA welcomes inquiries by news journalists and free-lance writers who seek information about the private pension system, related federal regulations, applicable state or federal legislation, and the duties and operations of retirement plan professionals.

ASPPA Leaders in the NEWS
Following his appearance before Congress, ASPPA president Stephen Dobrow continued to speak in the news about the need for federal relief for owners of small businesses who are struggling to keep their 401(k) Safe Harbor plans.  In addition to inclusion in a report by Bloomberg News, Dobrow was on the radio program Marketplace on National Public Radio.  The U.S. Department of the Treasury offered small businesses some relief in May, as updated by Bloomberg News and 401k Wire

ASPPA board member and pension actuary Martella A. Turner-Joseph was part of a report in Barron’s magazine entitled “Seven Steps to Fatten Your Retirement Fund” on April 6, 2009.

ASPPA Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer Brian Graff was quoted in a financial column about the review of 401(k) plans by Congress.  The column, by personal finance columnist Gail MarksJarvis (Tribune Newspapers), appeared in dozens of newspapers across the nation.

ASPPA member Julian Onorato testified on behalf of ASPPA, CIKR, and NAIRPA before the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions about 401(k) fee disclosure in the 401(k) Fair Disclosure for Retirement Security Act of 2009.  He appeared in the CBS Evening News report.

ASPPA member R. Bradford Huss, senior adviser to the ASPPA Government Afairs Committee and an ERISA attorney spoke with Pension & Investment magazine in May about legislation regarding independent financial advice.

As pension legislation moves through committees in Congress, ASPPA Chief of Actuarial Issues and Director of Retirement Policy Judy A. Miller commented about funding relief in a Pension & Investment magazine article.
