ASPPA & Non-ASPPA Continuing Education Credit for Examinations

ASPPA emphasizes the importance of the continuing professional and educational development of its members. ASPPA also recognizes the importance of providing educational opportunities to earn continuing education credit (CE) for other designations.

Below is a list of educational opportunities to earn ASPPA and non-ASPPA continuing education credits for ASPPA examinations. For information on all opportunities to earn ASPPA continuing education credits please visit http://www.asppa.org/education/ed_conted.htm.

ASPPA CE Credit for ASPPA Examinations

A candidate can receive ASPPA CE credit for the ASPPA activities:

  • Receive a score of 7, 8 or 9 on any PFC-1, PFC-2, DC-1, DC-2, DC-3, DB, C-3, C-4 or A-4 examination, or a passing grade on the A-1 (EA-1), A-2(EA-2A), A-3 (EA-2B) exams, not previously passed (20 credits/examination). Self-study time for these exams cannot be used for additional CE credit. Credits will be applied to the cycle in which you receive your grade.
  • Receive a score of 5 or 6 on any PFC-1, PFC-2, DC-1, DC-2, DC-3, DB, C-3, C-4 or A-4 examination or a score of 5 on the A-1 (EA-1), A-2(EA-2A), A-3 (EA-2B) examinations, not previously passed (15 credits/examination). Self-study time for these exams cannot be used for additional CE credit. Credits will be applied to the cycle in which you receive your grade.
  • Successful completion of the Retirement Plan Fundamentals Course, RPF-1 and RPF-2, (7.5 credits per exam).

ASPPA exams, including those taken to earn the first credential, may be claimed for credits in the two-year CE cycle in which the grade is issued.

Non-ASPPA CE Credit for Examinations

Successfully completed ASPPA examinations have been approved for Certified Financial Planner (CFP) credit by the CFP Board. Credits through PACE have also been approved for Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designations for the successful completion of the following activities:

Examination CFP, ChFC & CLU Credits
RPF-1 & RPF-2 15 credits each
DC-1, DC-2, DC-3, DB 20 credits each
PFC-1, PFC-2, C-3, C-4 20 credits each

ASPPA will report CFP CE hours electronically to the CFP Board. CFP® certificants must complete the CFP Candidate Reporting Sheet in its entirety and submit to ASPPA at educasppa@asppa.org after successful completion of an examination.

Please refer to the CFP web site for additional information on reporting and earning continuing education credits. The ChFC and CLU designations are designations awarded by the The American College. ASPPA conferences also provide an opportunity to earn CFP, ChFC, CLU and NASBA credit. Please refer to the conferences web page for information on the number of credits.

Academic Credit

Most ASPPA examinations have been recommended for college credit by the American Council on Education (ACE). For information on specific examination recommendations, visit http://www.asppa.org/education/ace.htm.
