FASTEST GROWING EMPLOYEE BENEFITS CONFERENCE EXPECTED TO ATTRACT 600+ April 14 , 2005 -(Arlington, Va.) – The American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries (ASPPA) and Western Pension & Benefits Conference (WP&BC) announced today that they will jointly present Meeting Midway, an employee benefits conference from July 24-27, 2005, at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego, CA. “Meeting Midway is a joint conference that combines ASPPA’s annual summer conference and Western Pension & Benefits Conference’s annual meeting to provide two great conferences in one. Session topics are both timely and varied, from the fundamentals to the latest in advanced benefits topics,” said WP&BC President, Ian Altman, EA, FSA. This new educational conference covers retirement, health and welfare issues; fiduciary and investment issues; actuarial pension issues and legal issues. Session topics will include regulatory updates on newly released 401(k) regulations, national retirement income, Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), Post-Enron audits, IRS Q&A session focused exclusively on actuarial issues and legal workshops on abusive tax practices and improper ESOPs. Speakers will include Dr. Jack Vanderhei of the Employee Benefits Research Institute (EBRI), who will speak about national retirement income adequacy and the results from EBRI’s latest study on Social Security reform. Other distinguished speakers will include representatives from the Department of Labor (DOL), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) and Congressional staff. “This is an ideal conference for employee benefit practitioners to immerse themselves in their specialty areas and learn from industry and government leaders,” said ASPPA Executive Director/CEO, Brian Graff, Esq., APM. The conference offers 20 hours of ASPPA continuing education credit and up to 19 Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries (JBEA) credit hours for enrolled actuaries.
