DEPARTMENT OF LABOR CONFERENCE TO MAKE INAUGURAL DEBUT IN WASHINGTON, DC

March 31, 2005 -(Arlington, Va.) – The American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries (ASPPA) and the Department of Labor (DOL) announced today that they will jointly present, “The DOL Speaks: 2005 Employee Benefits Conference,” a new, two-day conference focused entirely on fiduciary issues related to Title I of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA). The conference, designed for professional services providers and in-house employee benefits professionals, will be held April 25-26, 2005, at the Wyndham Washington DC Hotel. Every session will feature both private and public sector speakers presenting their unique perspectives on Title I issues. U.S. Secretary of Labor, Elaine L. Chao, will also be featured as a luncheon speaker.

“This conference is so unique because of its singular focus on ERISA Title 1 issues; participants will be immersed in the most timely issues from the Administration’s defined benefit reform proposal to the disclosure of plan fees and expenses,” said ASPPA Executive Director/CEO, Brian Graff, Esq., APM.

Conference topics will include DOL enforcement and hot litigation topics; regulatory update on recently issued fiduciary guidance, including automatic rollovers and missing participants; overview of the current and proposed prohibited transaction exemptions; update on plan fees, investment management and mutual fund-related issues; issues affecting group health plans in area of fiduciary responsibility and COBRA, and more.

ASPPA is now accepting online conference registrations at www.asppa.org. Attendees can save $100 if they register by April 4, 2005; the final, advance registration deadline is April 15, 2005, onsite registration will be available.

The conference offers 15 hours of ASPPA continuing education credit.
