UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN PARTNERS WITH PENSION PROFESSIONALSJanuary 13, 2005 - ( Arlington, Va.) – The American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries (ASPPA) announced today that it is partnering with the University of Michigan to oversee the academic content and examination standards for ASPPA’s credentialing program. The partnership will couple the University of Michigan’s academic expertise with ASPPA’s industry and 401(k) plan expertise. “This partnership will create definite synergies as the University of Michigan brings academic and scholarly research strengths to ASPPA’s credentialing program. Given the demand for highly competent pension professionals, it’s critical that our educational materials provide technical content that has real world application,” said ASPPA Executive Director/CEO, Brian Graff, Esq., APM. Currently the University of Michigan operates the oldest actuarial program within the U.S., founded in 1903, and boasts the largest number of credentialed actuarial science faculty within its mathematics department . ASPPA offers education and professional credentials for actuaries (FSPA, MSPA) and for non-actuarial professionals, such as 401(k) administrators (QKA), pension consultants (CPC), and other benefits professionals (APM). ASPPA members, over 5,400 strong, provide consulting and administrative support to more than half of the private retirement plans in the country. “Given the huge demand on the U.S. pension system, it’s vitally important to continue to foster excellence in pension education. This partnership between the university and ASPPA is an excellent opportunity to continue to raise the competency of U.S. pension professionals," said Curtis E.
