LEADING MEMBERSHIP ASSOCIATION FOR PENSION PROFESSIONALS RENAMES ITSELF

November 16, 2004 - (Arlington, VA) The American Society of Pension Actuaries (ASPA) announced today that it has changed its name to the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries (ASPPA). The change was made as a result of the continued diversification of the organization’s membership base. Originally founded as a pension actuarial organization in 1966, ASPPA’s non-actuarial members now account for over 85% of the membership. ASPPA members include retirement plan professionals who hold credentials in law, accounting, actuarial science, financial science, insurance, as well as pension administrators and consultants.

The organization’s new name coincides with the launch of a new web site, www.asppa.org, and an industry advertising campaign. “Given our mission to enhance the competencies of retirement plan professionals and improve the retirement plan system, we believe this new name and associated brand image will help us continue to attract all retirement plan professionals to our membership,“ said ASPPA Executive Director, Brian H. Graff, Esq.

“Due to the diversity of pension expertise within our membership, this new name better describes our organization,” said Steve Rosen, ASPPA President.

ASPPA is a national organization of retirement plan professionals dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of the private pension system in the United States. ASPPA offers education and professional credentials for 401(k) administrators (QKA), actuaries (FSPA, MSPA), pension consultants (CPC), pension administrators (QPA) and other benefits professionals (APM). Its 5,400+ members provide consulting and administrative support to over half of the private retirement plans in the country.
