ANNUAL CONFERENCE OFFERS TECHNICAL EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS FOR RETIREMENT PLAN PROFESSIONALSSeptember 14, 2004 – (Arlington, Va.) On October 24-27, 2004, in Washington, DC, over 1,500 retirement plan professionals will take part in one of the best educational events in the industry. "ASPPA has brought together nationally-recognized experts, including Internal Revenue Service and Department of Labor representatives, which gives me a perspective that I could not get locally. I always learn something new and take it back to my business for the benefit of my clients and employees," says Cathy Green, CPC, QPA, and Conference General Chair. The Conference features informative general sessions and more than 45 educational workshops. General sessions will feature the latest information on government affairs activities, including an update on new regulations and pension legislation and interactive discussions with experts from the Internal Revenue Service, the Department of Labor and the Department of Treasury. Conference highlights include the President’s Welcome Reception, face-to-face time with over 70 vendors, Education and Examination Cram Sessions, a special luncheon presentation by the Political Comedy Group “The Capitol Steps” and the unveiling of the new ASPPA brand identity and logo and much more. Attendees can also meet with their congressional representatives during their visits to Capitol Hill. Workshops are divided into six tracks that include actuary, administration, legal, business, consultant and 401(k) plan issues. Conference sessions with IRS, Department of Labor and private sector experts will educate attendees on the following: Governmental Update; Key Fiduciary Issues for 401(k) Plans in 2004; How to Survive a DOL Audit; IRS Q&A; Defined Benefit Calculations; Prepare and Conduct a Successful IRS Audit; Abusive Tax Practices; Non-Qualified Deferred Compensation Plans; and much more. The Conference is also an excellent opportunity to network with other practitioners, plan sponsors and plan administrators, and to browse exhibits displaying the latest technologies and services in the industry.
