ASPPA AND THE IRS TO HOST EMPLOYEE BENEFITS CONFERENCE

March 27, 2003 - (Arlington, Va.) – ASPPA and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) have teamed up to present the 2003 Mid-Atlantic Area Benefits Conference in Philadelphia, PA, May 13-14, 2003. The Conference features interactive panel discussions on the latest employee benefits issues with local, regional, and national government and private sector experts. Designed for all pension professionals, the program will focus on exchanging information and educating attendees on current regulatory, legislative, administrative, and actuarial topics.

According to Stephen H. Rosen, MSPA, CPC, ASPPA Board member, and co-chair of the Mid-Atlantic Conference, “What makes the conference particularly valuable is that it draws more government speakers than any other event in the area. Attendees are able to interact directly with the people responsible for forming, implementing, and enforcing government policy.”

Sessions with IRS and DOL experts will feature discussions on Voluntary Compliance; Determination Issues; 401(k) Plans; 403(b)/457 Plans; EP Team Audit Program; IRS Audits and Corrections Programs; Aggressive Tax Practices; Section 125 Issues; and the Multi-Employer Examination Program. Experts from the private sector will address topics such as Bankruptcy; Cash Balance Plan Design; Fiduciary Issues in a Bear Market; Investment Advice vs. Education; Missing Participants; Privacy Issues; and Spousal Consent.

All employee benefits professionals are encouraged to attend including accountants; actuaries; attorneys; benefits directors; consultants; human resource personnel; investment professionals; paralegals; plan administrators; trust officers; and others. The conference offers up to 4 core and 12 noncore JBEA (Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries) credit hours and 16 hours of ASPPA continuing education credit. CE credit is also available for attorneys, insurance professionals and CPAs upon request.

The Conference is jointly sponsored by ASPPA and the Mid-Atlantic Area Employee Plans, Tax Exempt/Government Entities Division of the Internal Revenue Service.
