Compensation is one of the most fundamental concepts for a retirement plan. But how do you determine compensation for someone who owns the business and doesn't receive a W-2? That's where earned income enters in, a vitally important issue for sole proprietors, partners, and other self-employed individuals. Join S. Derrin Watson, APM, is the 2006 winner of ASPPA's Educator's Award. He "wrote the book" on earned income, covering the topic extensively in his book, Who's the Employer. He regularly teaches about earned income, compensation, and employee issues for his employer, SunGard, as well as ASPPA and other professional organizations.
