From the Executive Editor
Hi Devoted Readers. This is Grand Executive Editor For Life Norm reporting to his reliable followers on this magnificent occasion… Okay, I have apparently been reading way too much North Korea news! Seriously though, it’s really hard not to be anxious about the state of the world and the state of our own country right now – I find the best thing for me to do is to just focus on the small things I can control, and not worry about the grand forces swirling around, all way beyond my control. Getting the May e-news content submitted was one small thing I could control.
The ACOPA listserv has been really busy, with lots of very interesting conversations. One of these was a recent discussion about what the role of the actuary is when the actuary discovers that a portion of a plan’s assets was embezzled. One of the posters on this conversation was our regular contributor Richard Kutikoff, so I asked Richard if he would expand the discussion into an article for us, and Richard’s excellent submission is here.
Ethics and more ethics – Eric Brandon has written an article about the EA Conference sessions on these topics as part of our ongoing Professionalism series. Eric’s article is here.
Are all actuaries nerds? I asked my good friend Mary Ann Rocco to tell us about her hobbies to try dispel this myth, although after reading about Mary Ann’s hobbies here, I guess she really is a nerd after all. I’ll keep searching.
Our Executive Director Judy Miller updates us on the status of IRS regulations given the President’s Executive Order on reducing regulations. Judy’s article is here.
Kurt Piper, a.k.a Esteemed Leader, updates us on what our LC has been working on lately, here.
