ASPPA History Book Debuts Next Week

The ASPPA history book — the product of an effort stretching back to 2010 — will be unveiled next week at the 2016 ASPPA Annual Conference. Complimentary copies of the book will be shipped to members who are not attending this year’s conference.

Leading the Evolution: ASPPA’s 50 years at the Forefront of the Retirement Industry is an important part of our celebration of ASPPA’s 50th anniversary this year. It guides the reader through our rich and important history — celebrating our “ASPPA Passion,” our crucial role in educating retirement plan professionals, and our work to preserve the American workplace retirement system.

The 124-page large-format book tells ASPPA’s story through the experiences of ASPPA members, past leaders and others. The primary source of that information was a series of more than 50 interviews videotaped between 2010 and 2015 featuring ASPPA Past Presidents, volunteer leaders, government officials and past and present ASPPA staffers. From those interviews, author Jack El-Hai crafted this account of the ASPPA story, supported by a task force of Past Presidents: Karen Jordan (1998), Curt Hamilton (1983), Pat Byrnes (1991), Sarah Simoneaux (2006) and Kyla Keck (2015).

All current ASPPA members will receive a complimentary copy of Leading the Evolution:

• Every member attending ASPPA Annual next week will receive their copy at the conference. Look for the special history book desk near the registration area.
• If you’re not attending the conference this year, look for your copy to arrive via UPS next week.

ASPPA History Website

Please be sure to visit the special ASPPA history website that was created in tandem with Leading the Evolution, at http://asppa50.org/. The website features photos and documents uncovered in the course of researching, writing and editing the book. It also features videos about key aspects of ASPPA’s history that were created as part of this year’s 50th anniversary celebration, based on the video interviews that were the primary source of the book.
