ASPPA Welcomes Industry Leader Nevin Adams

Retirement-sector veteran Nevin Adams will join ASPPA next month to head its rapidly expanding media and marketing businesses.

Adams, who was most recently Director of Education and External Relations at the Employee Benefit Research Institute and co-director of EBRI’s Center for Research on Retirement Income, brings a unique combination of talents to ASPPA, NTSA and NAPA, having previously spent a dozen years as Global Editor-in-Chief of PLANSPONSOR magazine and its online counterpart, PLANSPONSOR.com, where he also guided the launch of PLANADVISER and PLANSPONSOR Europe magazines. He was also the creator, writer and publisher of PLANSPONSOR.com’s NewsDash, which, for more than a decade, was the industry’s leading daily source for information focused on the critical issues impacting benefits industry professionals.

Building on the success of NAPA Net, ASPPA recently launched a new web portal for its membership, as well as one for the National Tax-deferred Savings Association (NTSA), each designed to provide members and non-members with a robust, vibrant and user-friendly experience. As part of his role within the organization, Adams will be the editor-in-chief of all three portals. The expansions — and Adams’ hire — reflect the growth of ASPPA’s media business, as well as the opportunity to combine the expanding media channels with marketing to create a fully integrated communications enterprise.

"Nevin's vast experience in media as well as his extensive knowledge of our industry and retirement policy issues makes him a perfect fit,” said Brian Graff, ASPPA's Executive Director and CEO. “We are thrilled to have him join the ASPPA team."

“ASPPA’s strong advocacy voice, and its commitment to broad-based education, have long made it the premier national organization for retirement plan professionals,” Adams said. “They have a great team, a compelling message, and a dynamic membership engaged in a constantly evolving business. The professionals who work with retirement plans have an ever-increasing need for information that is timely, informative, and insightful, and I’m looking forward to developing the next generation of solutions to meet that challenge at ASPPA.”

Fred Barstein, founder and the CEO of the Retirement University Advisor University (TRAU), who was instrumental in the development and launch of the NAPA Net portal and NAPA Net the Magazine, will continue to contribute his insights and perspective to both ventures, and will continue to participate on the NAPA Net Advisory Committee. Graff stated, “The organization overall, and particularly NAPA, owes a large debt of gratitude to Fred. There is no question that we would not be where we are today without his leadership. It is ironic, and frankly not surprising, that because of the success of what he helped foster, his former responsibilities with NAPA became too significant relative to his other expanding business interests.”
