ASPPA’s Government Affairs Committee (GAC) represents ASPPA in communications with the United States executive branch, Congress, and government agencies in shaping the retirement industry and protecting our members.  These communications can include developing comment letters to the Department of Labor, the Treasury Department, IRS and the PBGC, as well as testimony on Capitol Hill.  In addition, GAC is the one responsible for notifying ASPPA members of important legal and regulatory developments through the issue of periodic ASPPA asaps and GAC Alerts.

General GAC Committee

As a general member, you will get the opportunity to participate in quarterly calls to discuss key retirement plan developments in Congress and the regulatory agencies.  You will also be able to provide critical information on industry practices and act as an “early warning” system for developments in the “field” on new issues impacting our members. For example, you will participate in targeted, periodic surveys on retirement issues, and be able to provide valuable feedback on pending and recently issued guidance through GAC's comment letter process.  And that is just the beginning.  As your GAC participation grows, you may also become eligible for selection to serve on one of the various GAC subcommittees.

This general membership is perfect for ASPPA members who currently have a limited amount of time to volunteer with GAC or who are developing expertise in government affairs.

        guidance projects through periodic surveys,

·      opportunity to advise GAC of important new developments that impact the retirement community, and
