Testimony
Using comment letters and testimony, ASPPA Government Affairs responds to new legislation, proposed changes to existing regulations, and proposed new regulations. Any action that would change existing pension policy or affect the work of pension professionals is the object of ASPPA comments from Government Affairs. In its role of closely monitoring legislative and regulatory actions, ASPPA Government Affairs directs its comments and testimony to appropriate agencies, clearly reflecting the stance of ASPPA and its members.

On October 28, 2009, NAIRPA submitted comments for the record to the Senate Special Committee on Aging’s hearing entitled, “Default Nation: Are 401(k) Target Date Funds Missing the Mark?” [Comment]
On October 1, 2009, Mark Davis, Vice President and Financial Advisor of CAPTRUST Financial Advisors, testified on behalf of NAIRPA before a hearing held by the House Ways & Means Committee titled, “Defined Benefit Pension Plan Funding Levels and Investment Advice Rules.” [Testimony]

On April 22, 2009, Julian Onorato testified on behalf of ASPPA, CIKR and NAIRPA before the House Committee on Education and Labor Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions on issues relating to 401(k) fee disclosure addressed in the 401(k) Fair Disclosure for Retirement Security Act of 2009. On March 24, 2009, ASPPA, CIKR and NAIRPA submitted comments for the record to the House Committee on Education and Labor, Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor and Pensions hearing entitled "Retirement Security: The Importance of an Independent Investment Adviser." On March 2, 2009, Yannis Koumantaros, Director of Spectrum Pension Consultants, Inc., testified on behalf of ASPPA before the Washington Senate Ways and Means Committee in opposition to state-administered voluntary retirement account legislation (SB 5791).[Testimony]
