At a time when many lament that civility is quickly disappearing from everyday life, some professionals may question whether and how civility and professionalism interplay. This session will help the employee benefits professional better appreciate how civility can strengthen business relationships, mitigate the risk of litigation and enhance credibility when dealing with clients, colleagues, regulators, employees and even competitors. This webcast will also address the obligation of professional courtesy imposed by the ARA Code of Professional Conduct, and will offer tips for compliance.

About the Speaker:

Lauren Bloom is an internationally recognized expert on professional ethics and responsible litigation risk management. She wrote the award-winning book, "Art of the Apology: How, When, and Why to Give and Accept Apologies," and the e-book, "Elegant Solutions: A Practical Guide to Resolving Dilemmas While Preserving Your Business Relationships." Lauren has appeared on The Today Show, The CBS Evening News, ESPN, Fox Business News, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Sky News London, BBC World Radio, and the Diane Rheam Show. She has been widely quoted in the national and international press. Lauren spent more than 14 years as General Counsel of the American Academy of Actuaries, where her practice focused on teaching professionals how to incorporate high ethical standards and good business principles into their professional activities. She played a pivotal role in the development and enforcement of the U.S. actuarial profession's code of conduct and standards of qualification and practice. Lauren also consulted with ASPPA on its recently updated Code of Conduct, and is a regular contributor to ASPPA's publications.
